The Problem

Fast fashion’s rapid production and disposal cycle causes environmental degradation and social inequity by promoting overconsumption and unsustainable labour practices. This creates a need for versatile, ethically produced clothing that encourages mindful consumption and reduces waste.

The Design

Versa is a brand identity developed in response to environmental and social impacts in fashion. The brand centres on a single, versatile garment, a bleach-dyed square scarf created with foraged leaf stencils. Designed to be worn in multiple ways, the scarf encourages creative reuse and self-expression while challenging overconsumption. Each piece is hand-dyed, embedding semiotic and ethical value through its connection to nature, sustainability, and accessibility. Versa represents my belief that good design is purposeful and responsive, grounded in concept and craft.

Process

My target audience is young adults, fashion-forward individuals who value versatility and seek ways to curate a minimalist yet expressive wardrobe. The project involved research on sustainable fabrics, handcrafting techniques, and strategic visual identity development. Using natural plant stencils and exploring low-impact methods informed decisions around production and accessibility.
